Editorial Principles
Independence
Tradewinds Brief is independently published and not affiliated with any government, embassy, political party, or commercial interest in any country we cover. We accept advertising and earn affiliate commissions; we disclose both. Editorial decisions are made independently of either.
Equal weight, sixteen countries
Caribbean (twelve): Guyana, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Antigua and Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis.
Africa (four): Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa.
No single country drives selection. Stories are chosen for their cross-border weight and diaspora-decision relevance, not for proximity to any one place.
Sourcing
Every “today’s news” story cites a specific dated article from a named primary source. Aggregator timestamps are not sufficient. Our active source set includes the Jamaica Gleaner, Jamaica Observer, Trinidad Guardian, Barbados Today, the Tribune (Bahamas), the Guyana Chronicle, Kaieteur News, Guyana Times, Demerara Waves, and major African outlets including Reuters, BBC, GhanaWeb, Kenyans.co.ke, and others. We also use UN News, AP, and embassy advisories where appropriate.
Naming individuals
We name individuals only when multiple national outlets have already named them publicly on the same story. Original naming of individuals not yet in the public press is not our role.
Voice
We write for adults who are managing two countries. Direct. Specific. Concrete. We trust the reader.
Corrections
When we get it wrong, we say so — openly, at the top of the affected piece, with the date the correction was made and what was changed. See our corrections page →
Affiliate disclosure
Some links on this site earn us commission. The order in which we list providers, and the providers we cover, are not affected by these commissions. Full disclosure →
