U.S. Embassy Warns Travelers Over Jet-Ski Safety Risks at Nassau Beaches

1 min read

The U.S. Embassy in Nassau issued a security advisory cautioning travellers about jet-ski operations on New Providence and Paradise Island, citing weak enforcement of safety regulations and a pattern of reported assaults tied to some operators. U.S. government employees are now prohibited from renting jet skis on those islands, and the embassy urged visitors to avoid solicitations near the cruise port, Junkanoo Beach, and the small cays east of Paradise Island.

For the large Bahamian diaspora and the relatives who visit them, the notice is a practical safety read rather than a political one. Authorities reminded the public that rentals to people under 18 are prohibited and that operators are not permitted to ride along with renters, guidance that holds regardless of which advisory a traveller follows.
