Moody's Lifts The Bahamas to Ba3 With a Positive Outlook
Moody’s has upgraded The Bahamas’ long-term rating to Ba3 from B1 and shifted the outlook to positive, citing stronger fiscal performance, lower borrowing needs and improved governance. The move signals that the country’s debt position is seen as more durable, supported by revenue that increasingly extends beyond the usual tourism cycle.
A higher rating generally lowers the government’s cost of borrowing and can ripple into a steadier broader economy. For Bahamian families and the diaspora, the practical takeaway is improving stability heading into a year that also includes a general election scheduled for September. As always, the economy stays closely tied to U.S. visitor demand, so the rating is a tailwind rather than a guarantee.
