Bahamas power buyout cuts electricity rates for 17,000 Grand Bahama homes

The Bahamas government says its acquisition of the Grand Bahama Power Company has lowered electricity rates for more than 17,000 households since mid-June, part of a broader 2026/27 budget pitch built around cost-of-living relief and island-by-island investment. Prime Minister Philip Davis paired the energy move with VAT cuts on essentials and new solar and battery storage projects in Grand Bahama, Abaco and Eleuthera, citing 3.8 percent growth in 2025 and inflation held near 0.6 percent. The measures follow Davis’s re-election in May and aim to spread the recovery beyond New Providence.
