Five things, three lines each. Unverified. Mostly true. Definitely funny.
1. ECLAC says Guyana collects 9.2 percent of its own economy in tax. The regional average is 21.7. Somewhere, a finance minister is explaining that “the rest is in escrow with the spirit of capitalism.”
2. Venezuela’s case at the ICJ this week was that the 1899 award was rigged. Their evidence was a 1949 memo. That’s like challenging a parking ticket by submitting a postcard from Tobago.
3. Bahamas judge denies the BCP’s injunction to halt the May 12 election. The plaintiff says she’ll wait for the written ruling. Tuesday says it’ll wait for nobody.
4. Trinidad’s NGC has issued a denial that it sponsored the Air Supply concert. Industry observers note the band is still booking shows, which technically makes both halves of “Air Supply” and “denial” accurate.
5. PM Phillips of Guyana told the private sector to see energy efficiency as a business opportunity. The private sector replied that it sees most things as business opportunities — that’s the problem.
