Ghana's cedi slips past GH¢12 to the dollar as inflation ticks up
Ghana’s cedi has come under renewed pressure in June, trading around GH¢12.30 to GH¢12.40 per dollar at forex bureaus, while inflation edged up to 3.7 percent in May, the second consecutive monthly rise. The softening partly reverses a strong 2025 rally and reflects higher crude prices, with the Bank of Ghana cautioning that inflation could approach double digits by year-end. For a diaspora that sends substantial remittances home, the currency’s direction directly affects how far each transfer stretches.
