President John Mahama says Ghana has risen from 11th to 8th among Africa’s strongest economies in 18 months, overtaking Côte d’Ivoire and Ethiopia, crediting reforms that stabilised the cedi after its 2022 freefall. Analysts caution the recovery leans heavily on gold and oil, and the cedi gave back some gains in mid-2026, trading near 11.40 to the dollar this week.
