Ghana's diaspora sends a record $7.8 billion home, its largest-ever annual inflow
President John Dramani Mahama told Parliament that remittances from Ghanaians abroad reached a record US$7.8 billion in 2025, calling the diaspora the country’s “most reliable development partner.” He credited confidence in Ghana’s recovery — inflation down sharply, the cedi appreciating more than 40%, and GDP crossing US$100 billion. The president stressed the funds flow directly into households, education, housing and business seed capital, while stabilising foreign exchange. For the Ghanaian diaspora, the record underlines both the weight of their contribution and the case for formal, lower-cost transfer channels.
