Mitchell weighs US radar request

The PM Dickon Mitchell administration continues to weigh Washington’s request to allow US military radar and other facilities on Grenadian soil — a request that has registered uncomfortably given the country’s 1983 history with US military involvement.

The government’s position to date has been deliberately measured: open to security cooperation, cautious about basing arrangements that could narrow Grenada’s diplomatic flexibility across the broader Caribbean. The opposition has called for full parliamentary disclosure of any framework before any agreement is signed.

For Grenadians, this is the foreign-policy story that matters most. The CBI question is loud; the radar question is quiet, and bigger.

CBI reform clock running

Grenada continues to operate within the regional CBI reform framework alongside Antigua, Dominica, St Kitts, and St Lucia. Grenada’s program remains the regional standout for US E-2 Visa eligibility — a feature the government is reluctant to compromise even under reform pressure.

The next benchmarks under the Washington framework are expected within weeks.

Tourism: Spice Isle holds firm

Tourism arrivals are tracking solidly into the summer shoulder, with a strong UK and Canadian feed and improving North American connectivity. The Pure Grenada brand has held its premium positioning through a difficult region-wide visa-policy cycle, and the cruise-stop volume remains a consistent revenue contributor.
