Grenada Opens Inaugural Diaspora Homecoming 2026 to Bind Nationals Abroad Into Development

Grenada’s inaugural Diaspora Homecoming 2026 is under way, running from June 21 to July 5, opening with a formal welcome for returning nationals at Maurice Bishop International Airport and a church service, and closing with a major concert at the Grenada Trade Centre. Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell has framed the initiative as a deliberate shift away from an “ad hoc” relationship built on remittances and barrels toward treating the diaspora as full partners in national development.

Mitchell argues Grenada cannot grow over the next 25 years without the expertise, networks, and capital of its people abroad, and the programme invites returnees to help shape its future direction directly. For Grenadians in New York, Toronto, and London, the homecoming is both a celebration and a test of whether the “partner, not patron” rhetoric translates into concrete channels for investment and skills.
