Holness Keeps Wheatley in Cabinet as Integrity Commission Pushes Illicit-Enrichment Charge

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Minister Andrew Wheatley retains his confidence, even after the Integrity Commission recommended Wheatley be charged with illicit enrichment, false declarations, and failure to provide information. The Commission reported assets it valued at roughly J$164 million that it said were disproportionate to Wheatley’s lawful earnings. Opposition figures have called for his removal since the report was tabled on June 17.

Holness defended the Commission as a necessary anti-corruption body while arguing it needs reform to be more effective, and said he was unaware of the investigation before the report surfaced.
