Jamaica commits J$545M to put AI certification in all 63 constituencies

Jamaica’s government has launched GAINS, the Growing AI Innovation and National Skills Programme, a J$545-million workforce initiative designed to deliver AI skills certification and employment pathways to each of the island’s 63 constituencies. The announcement, made in Parliament during the Sectoral Debate, lands as the country manages a difficult post-Hurricane Melissa recovery and a forecast inflation breach tied to higher global oil prices. For Jamaicans at home and abroad weighing where the labour market is heading, the programme is the administration’s clearest bet that digital skills can broaden opportunity beyond the capital.
