Summary

Tradewinds Brief aims to collect as little reader information as possible. We do not sell reader data. We do not run programmatic ad networks that profile readers across the web. We do use Google Analytics to understand site usage in aggregate. This page explains what we collect and why.

What we collect

When you read the site: Our hosting provider (Netlify) logs basic request data — IP address, user agent, page requested, timestamp — for the purpose of operating the service. We do not maintain our own long-term store of this raw request data.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4): We use Google Analytics to measure, in aggregate, how the site is used — pages viewed, approximate location (derived from IP), device and browser type, and how you arrived. Google uses your IP address to estimate general location but does not log or store it within Analytics. This data is processed by Google under Google’s privacy policy and is retained according to our Google Analytics retention settings. We use it to understand which coverage is useful to readers, not to identify you individually. To opt out, install Google’s opt-out browser add-on or block analytics cookies in your browser.

When you subscribe to our newsletter: We collect your email address through Buttondown, our newsletter platform. We use your email to send you the newsletters you signed up for and nothing else. You can unsubscribe at any time through the link in any newsletter.

When you click an affiliate link: The provider you click through to (for example, Wise) may set cookies in your browser to attribute the transaction to us. Those cookies are governed by the provider’s own privacy policy, not ours.

When you contact us: If you email us through any of the addresses listed on our Contact page, we receive and retain that correspondence for editorial and operational purposes.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell, rent, or share reader data with third parties for marketing purposes
  • We do not maintain advertising profiles on readers
  • We do not place advertising or retargeting pixels for third-party ad networks
  • We do not require an account to read the site

Children

Our content is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, please write to us at corrections@tradewindsbrief.com.
