Doreen Maria Ramcharan of Brooklyn, New York, formerly of Chaguanas, Trinidad, passed away on April 14, 2026 at the age of 73, after a long illness borne with grace.

Born in Chaguanas on November 14, 1952, Doreen was the eldest daughter of the late Rampersad and Savitri Ramcharan. She attended Naparima Girls’ High School and earned a teaching diploma at Valsayn Teachers’ College. She emigrated to New York in 1979 and taught second grade at PS 326 in East Flatbush for 31 years before retiring in 2018.

She was the wife of Krishna Ramcharan for 47 years, and mother of Anil Ramcharan (Priya), Reshma Ramcharan-Singh (Vinod), and the late Vishnu Ramcharan (deceased 2014). She is survived by five grandchildren, her sister Indra Sookoo of Toronto, and her brother Steve Ramcharan of Princes Town, Trinidad.

Doreen was a devoted member of the Brooklyn Krishna Mandir and the Trinidad and Tobago Alliance of New York. She was known for her doubles, her phulourie, and her insistence that no one leave her house hungry.

Service

Cremation services will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Brooklyn Krishna Mandir, 1234 Avenue J, Brooklyn, NY. A pooja will be held thirteen days after the cremation. The family will gather at the Mandir for prayers each evening at 7:00 PM until then.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brooklyn Krishna Mandir building fund.
