Lillian May Persaud, of Queens, New York, formerly of New Amsterdam, Berbice, departed this life peacefully on April 22, 2026 at the age of 88, surrounded by her family.
Born to the late Reginald and Margaret Persaud on March 12, 1938, Lillian attended Berbice High School before training as a nurse at the Georgetown Hospital. She emigrated to New York in 1968 and worked as a registered nurse at Long Island Jewish Medical Center for 32 years.
She was the beloved wife of the late Hubert Persaud (deceased 2019), and a devoted mother to Janet Persaud-Mohamed (Trevor), Roy Persaud (Karen), and Denise Persaud-Williams (Mark). She is survived by her sister Pearl Henry of Toronto, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Lillian was a longtime member of the Queens Guyanese Association and the Richmond Hill Mandir, where she sang in the choir for over twenty years. She was known for her butterflap, her garden of dahlias, and her unfailing ability to make every visitor feel like family.
Service
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, May 10, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Richmond Hill Mandir, 102-25 95th Street, Ozone Park, NY. Burial to follow at St. John Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Guyana Diabetes Association.
