Vincent Nathaniel Greaves, of London, formerly of St. Philip, Barbados, passed away peacefully on April 10, 2026 at King’s College Hospital in his 84th year, surrounded by his children and grandchildren.

Born in St. Philip on June 28, 1942 to the late Esau and Henrietta Greaves, Vincent was the second of seven children. He attended Princess Margaret Secondary School and worked briefly as a clerk at the Barbados Telephone Company before emigrating to England in 1962, part of the Windrush generation.

He worked for British Rail for 35 years, rising to a senior signalman role at Waterloo Station, before retiring in 1997. He was the husband of the late Eunice Greaves (née Browne, deceased 2018), and the father of Patricia Greaves-Andrews (Michael), Stephen Greaves (Joanne), and Veronica Greaves of Bridgetown. He is survived by eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his brother Hilford Greaves of St. Philip, and his sister Marina Hinds of Brooklyn.

Vincent was a longtime member of the New Testament Church of God in Brixton, where he served as a deacon for over thirty years. He was an avid follower of Barbados cricket and a regular at the West Indian Cultural Centre.

Service

The funeral service will be held on Friday, May 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM at the New Testament Church of God, Effra Road, Brixton, London SW2. Burial to follow at West Norwood Cemetery.

The family asks that donations be made to the Barbados Diabetes Association in his memory.
