Tinubu Recasts the NYSC as a Skills-and-Enterprise Platform
President Bola Tinubu defended a Federal Executive Council overhaul of the National Youth Service Corps, calling it the scheme’s most consequential reform since 1973 and repositioning it around skills, employability and enterprise. A six-week orientation would add digital and financial literacy, and deployment to insecure states would follow risk assessment. For the diaspora, the substance is whether a service year finally produces job-ready graduates rather than a rite of passage. Amending the NYSC Act is the step that makes it durable.
