Cunupia: four suspects killed in home-invasion shootout
Eight men attempted to break into a home at Ramnarine Trace, Cunupia, on Saturday. Four were killed in the shootout that followed with police officers; two remain in custody. Police continued their search yesterday for the two remaining suspects linked to home invasions in the area.
Residents told the Trinidad Guardian they felt more at ease amid frequent patrols and heightened security activity in the community. Criminologists praised police for what they characterised as a decisive show of force. Internationally, criminologist Verla Depeiza warned that the Cunupia incident has heightened Barbados’ exposure to illegal firearms trafficking and called for tightened controls.
Two suspects remain at large; police are continuing their investigation.
NGC chairman: Trinidad part of all bp-Venezuela cross-border gas agreements
National Gas Company chairman Gerald Ramdeen told reporters at a Hyatt Regency gas supply agreement signing that NGC is “a part of all gas agreements happening in Venezuela on the cross-border fields.” The statement came in response to questions on the memorandum of understanding signed last Thursday between bp and acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez.
Ramdeen said members of the bp team from London were advancing talks Wednesday on the cross-border Manakin-Cocuina field. The development is significant given the political delicacy of cross-border energy work between Trinidad’s energy sector and Venezuela in the current diplomatic climate.
