The interception is the largest single seizure reported in the Family Islands so far this year and adds to a steady run of maritime enforcement actions through the southern Bahamian chain.
In New Providence, officers attached to Operation Black Scorpion seized a firearm, ammunition and suspected drugs during a foot chase on Market Street on Monday evening. Police describe the operation as part of a sustained effort to disrupt gang-linked activity in the central New Providence corridor.
A separate fire investigation is underway at Inspiration Road, Imperial Park, after a single-story home and a nearby vehicle were engulfed in flames late Monday. Fire Services brought the blaze under control quickly, but the southern portion of the home sustained extensive heat damage.
On tourism, the Ministry continues to weigh strategy adjustments after Bahamas joined a regional cluster of destinations recording softer US arrival numbers in 2025. Officials are pointing to diversification of source markets, sustainability positioning and direct-flight partnerships as core levers for 2026.
