Saint Lucians now require visa to travel to Ireland

Saint Lucians have been required to obtain a visa to travel to Ireland since Monday, June 15, 2026, Ireland’s Migration Minister Colm Brophy confirmed. The change ends the visa-free regime that had been in place for Saint Lucia, Saint Kitts and Nevis, and Nicaragua, and follows a hardening EU stance on Caribbean Citizenship by Investment programmes that runs in parallel with similar UK action.

The visa requirement applies to short stays, transit, and visits — meaning Saint Lucian travellers connecting through Dublin must now hold appropriate visas in advance. Saint Lucia’s broader macro picture remains constructive: the country has recorded a decline in unemployment to a 25-year low, and Olympic champion Julien Alfred continues to anchor the international profile with a recent Oslo Diamond League win on her 25th birthday.

For the Saint Lucian diaspora and travelling nationals, the practical action is immediate: do not assume visa-free Ireland transit; apply through the Irish Naturalisation and Immigration Service before any planned travel, including stopovers en route to continental Europe.
