Bahamas isolates two European travelers at Princess Margaret Hospital after DRC routing
Two foreign nationals are in precautionary isolation after a three-week DRC visit and a Heathrow-Nassau routing. Both remain asymptomatic. The Bahamian Health Minister has signaled potential travel restrictions on inbound passengers from affected countries.
A British national resident in Australia and a French national remain in isolation at Princess Margaret Hospital in Nassau. The two men arrived on a British Airways flight from London Heathrow after spending approximately three weeks in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with onward travel through Ethiopia and London, the Ministry of Health and Wellness has confirmed.
As of May 26, neither traveler has shown symptoms of Ebola, the Tribune reports, citing the Health Ministry.
Health and Wellness Minister Dr. Michael Darville signaled at a Friday press conference that potential travel restrictions on passengers arriving from affected countries are being discussed at government level. Chief Medical Officer Jillian Bartlett confirmed more than 40 passengers seated near the two men are receiving enhanced monitoring as a precaution.
For Bahamian diaspora households in South Florida, Atlanta, and the Northeast planning summer return, the practical implications are immediate: expect potential additional screening at Lynden Pindling International. Confirm flight routings if any DRC, Uganda, South Sudan, or Ethiopia leg is part of the itinerary.
