Speaking at a press conference at the National Stadium, Providence, on Monday, President Dr. Mohamed Irfaan Ali reaffirmed Guyana’s sovereignty over its territory while extending what he called a hand of friendship to ordinary Venezuelans. The remarks landed inside the 60th Independence anniversary cycle and coincided with a separate announcement that Guyana would on Tuesday perform its first robotic cardiac surgery in partnership with India.

The Essequibo dispute, the CNOOC oil-revenue asymmetry, and the broader US naval posture in the Caribbean remain the structural backdrop. Within that context, Ali’s pivot is rhetorical positioning: separate the people of Venezuela from the Maduro government’s territorial claims, and keep the diplomatic ground less brittle ahead of any further International Court of Justice or arbitration milestone.

The Sunrise Glorification Service earlier on Monday — at which Ali called on citizens to rise in unity, faith, and dignity — set the symbolic register for the announcement.
