IDB Invest opened Sustainability Week 2026 on Tuesday at the Wyndham Grand Barbados Sam Lord’s Castle Resort, the first time the flagship event has been hosted in the Caribbean. More than 350 companies are attending the three-day forum, which runs through Thursday, May 28. The opening session brought together Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley, IDB Invest CEO James Scriven, Caribbean Development Bank President Daniel Best, and senior IDB Group leadership.

The framing is “IDBInvest+” and the “Originate-to-Share” business model: the IDB pitches itself as building bankable project pipelines, sharing risk with private capital providers, and accelerating execution on resilient infrastructure across Latin America and the Caribbean.

For Caribbean economies, the immediate question is whether Sustainability Week converts into bankable, Caribbean-headquartered project flow — or whether the regional capital stays domiciled in Latin America. Day 2 sessions today should clarify which pipelines actually move.
