South Africa Arrests Over 900 in Nationwide Anti-Migrant Marches
South African police say more than 900 people were arrested during nationwide anti-migrant protests marking an unofficial “deadline” for undocumented migrants to leave, with 108 of 120 marches peaceful and 12 requiring police intervention. One person was shot dead and shops were looted. Authorities insist the constitution protects everyone within the country’s borders, but the mass mobilisation, led by groups such as March and March, has driven evacuations across the region.
