Speedeet & Wilar

The World

The neighborhoods, schools, mango trees, and grown-ups that shape every story.

The neighborhood

Most Speedeet & Wilar stories happen within a few blocks. The shop. The yard. The mango tree. The dam at the end of the street. The school. The corner where the older boys hang out and the smaller kids are not supposed to go.

This is by design. The world is small because childhood is small. The whole universe fits inside a six-block radius, and that radius is enough.

Recurring places

  • Mr. Chan’s shop: the corner store where everyone passes through. Source of soft drinks, snacks, candy, gossip, and the famous mango tree out back.
  • The yard: where Speedeet and Wilar plot. Usually one of their yards. Sometimes someone else’s, which is how the trouble starts.
  • The dam: the long path that runs alongside the canal — the unofficial highway of the neighborhood, where everyone walks to get everywhere.
  • The mango tree: featured in multiple stories. Central character in its own right.

Recurring people

Beyond Speedeet and Wilar, the neighborhood includes shopkeepers, aunties, the iguana man, classmates, teachers, and the occasional grandparent. The world is dense with adults who know exactly who the boys are and exactly what they are likely to do next.
