&lt;p>The partial State of Emergency declared May 9 for sections of Belize City and the Belize District is entering its second week, with at least nine people detained as of May 12. The declaration followed escalating gang violence between the PIV and BLC factions, both rooted in the St Martin&amp;rsquo;s area. Police Commissioner Dr. Richard Rosado said the decision was not taken lightly. The Opposition Leader has criticised the move and called for a national crime strategy. The State of Emergency will need to be renewed or expire on its own terms — its trajectory will signal where Belizean security policy heads.&lt;/p></description></item></channel></rss>
