State of Emergency in parts of Belize City enters second week as detainee count grows

The partial State of Emergency declared May 9 for sections of Belize City and the Belize District is entering its second week, with at least nine people detained as of May 12. The declaration followed escalating gang violence between the PIV and BLC factions, both rooted in the St Martin’s area.
