The publication
Tradewinds Brief is an editorial publication operated by Hatchling Media. We publish news reporting, analysis, and practical guides for the Caribbean and its diaspora. The publication is reader-funded, ad-free, and editorially independent.
Use of the website
You may read, share, and discuss our content. Specifically:
- You may share our articles via email, social media, or messaging platforms.
- You may quote brief excerpts (typically up to 100 words) with attribution and a link back.
- You may not republish entire articles on other websites, in newsletters, or in other publications without permission. Email us if you want to do this.
- You may not use our content to train AI models, scrape it for commercial datasets, or systematically copy it. Article content is © Hatchling Media unless otherwise noted.
- You may not modify, translate, or rebrand our content as your own.
For media licensing or republication requests, contact brief@tradewindsbrief.com.
Newsletter subscription
The free newsletter (Daily Brief, Weekly column) is offered without charge and may be unsubscribed at any time using the link at the bottom of any email.
We reserve the right to:
- Modify the content, format, or frequency of the newsletter
- Pause publication during sanctioned skip periods (holidays, force majeure)
- Discontinue the newsletter, with reasonable notice to subscribers
Unsubscribing requires no explanation and takes effect immediately.
Supporter subscriptions
Tradewinds Premium supporter subscriptions are paid via Stripe (processed through EmailOctopus). By subscribing, you agree to:
- Recurring billing at the cadence you select (monthly or annual)
- Cancellation effective at the end of the current billing period (no partial refunds)
- The supporter benefits described on our /become-a-supporter/ page at the time you subscribed
We reserve the right to modify the supporter benefit structure with 30 days’ notice. If we materially reduce supporter benefits, you may cancel and receive a pro-rated refund of any unused portion of an annual subscription.
If we discontinue the supporter program entirely, we will refund any remaining unused portion of paid subscriptions.
The Founding Supporter pricing tier ($150/year, locked in for life) is honored for as long as the supporter program operates. If we are forced to discontinue the program, refunds are pro-rated as above.
Affiliate links
Some links on our website are affiliate links. We may earn commission when you sign up for a service via these links. This is disclosed both in our footer and on individual articles. Affiliate revenue does not influence our editorial decisions, and we do not link to services we have not evaluated.
Editorial independence
Our reporting is independent of any commercial relationship. We do not accept payment to feature, promote, or favor any company, government, or political figure. Sponsorship arrangements (when they exist) are clearly labeled and never affect editorial coverage.
Comments and reader feedback
We currently have no public comment system. Reader feedback via email, Slack DMs, and other channels is welcome. By sending us feedback you grant us the right to quote it (with attribution or anonymized) in future writing, unless you mark it as private.
Disclaimers
The content on Tradewinds Brief is journalism and analysis, not professional advice. Specifically:
- Our practical guides on money transfer, property, education, banking, and immigration are general guidance — not legal, financial, or tax advice. Decisions involving significant amounts of money or legal commitments should be made with a qualified professional.
- Our reporting is sourced from named outlets (Reuters, AP, Caribbean national press) and we make our best effort to verify, but we cannot guarantee that every fact in every article is current or accurate. We correct errors when identified — see corrections in newsletter footers.
- Our analysis represents our editorial perspective. Reasonable people may disagree.
- Our affiliate recommendations are based on our own evaluation of services and may not be the right choice for your specific situation.
Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, Tradewinds Brief and Hatchling Media are not liable for losses or damages arising from your use of the website, the newsletter, or any third-party service we link to. This includes financial decisions you make based on our content.
You agree to use Tradewinds Brief at your own risk and to verify any decision-relevant information independently.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The “last updated” date at the top reflects when. Material changes will be noted to current subscribers via the newsletter.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which Hatchling Media is established. Disputes that cannot be resolved through direct communication will be addressed through that jurisdiction’s courts.
